Renting a room at the Hotel California.

'Provide the specific move out dates as it was not reported.'
Do you have to report to a state that you are leaving it?

Instead of a rail line, perhaps they should have invested in a wall.

During the days of the runaway slaves there were bounties on them from the owners. “Underground Railroad” routes in places like Michigan were set up with secret locations and sympathetic anti-slavery people. There’s a historical plaque not far from me now for one location from those days.
Newsom and California Dems want the runaways in 2026 to be tracked down.

I live in Nevada. There was a time when I had a full-time job (remote) for a company in the Bay Area. The company's accountant withheld California State tax. Some time after leaving that job, I got a letter from the franchise board demanding that I file a tax return.
My response? "Fine, tell me where I vote." (This was before the mail-in ballot mania.)
Their reply? Refund checks for the withheld amounts.

I am aware that this happens with many states especially when the prior resident continues to own property in the state.

Gosh. I’m trying to remember the last time I had a layover in SFO or LAX. At the rate it’s sliding into bedlam, Cali will probably try to tax my total income prorated for the length of my stay. With an added environmental impact fee for breathing Cali air.
I’m pretty sure they won’t be able to nail me for flushing the toilet in the restrooms, because I don’t think the surveillance systems were up to capturing that yet. I’ll just tell them that I held it until we got off the ground and were out of Cali airspace.

NY has long done similar stuff to residents moving down to FL, requiring all sorts of evidence that they weren’t NY residents and they weren’t in NY making any money.

A few years back the Franchise Tax Board tried to tax the pensions of Californian retirees who had moved out of state. The Tax Board’s logic was the pensions were earned in California and thus were subject to California tax. SCOTUS slapped them down.
