Shia LaBeouf arrested in New Orleans after brawl during Mardi Gras

Actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested in New Orleans after allegedly hitting two people outside of a Royal Street business amid Mardi Gras celebrations, according to police.

The 39-year-old was kicked out of the business early Tuesday morning after causing a disturbance at the business, the New Orleans Police Department said.

"Once removed from the building, the victim reported being struck by LaBeouf who used his closed fists on the victim several times," police said in a news release.

"The victims reported that LaBeouf left, but then came back, acting even more aggressive."

Multiple people attempted to hold him down and released him so he could leave, but LaBeouf allegedly hit the same victim with a closed fist to the upper body, police said.

"LaBeouf then reportedly assaulted another person — punching him in the nose," police said. "LaBeouf was again held down until police arrived."

Getting arrested at Mardi Gras is quite easy. The cops do not try to sort out right and wrong but arrest people in order maintain order. Otherwise, the crowd can quickly get out of control and innocent people get hurt. After a trip to Central Lockup, most such “disorderly conduct” charges at Mardi Gras are dismissed at first appearance.

The song came about due to the Dead getting busted at their hotel in New Orleans on drug charges on January 31, 1970. As it happened, the movie Easy Rider had come out the summer of the year before. New Orleans was quickly transformed into a destination of choice for hippies, vagabonds, and venturesome teens and college kids.

The result was that the police and city leaders ordered a crackdown on vagrancy, drugs, and public misbehavior, with unsavory types like rock music performers a special target. My guess is that was why the Dead got busted. Even with greater law enforcement though, the 1970 Mardi Gras season was so riotous that there was public consideration of whether it should be continued.
