To: Diana in Wisconsin

I haven’t seen this. I have 3 sons, all got their licenses the instant they were eligible. Same with their friends. It does save my wife and I plenty of driving. We are in an affluent suburb of Boston, that might have something to do with it.

If your boys can navigate Boston traffic and roads, then they’re doing very well. Congrats!

Iv’e noticed a change in young folks today. They are inattentive, and basically don’t know how to do much of anything. I’m being polite.

Many families cannot afford for their kids to drive at 16. Especially these days. The insurance is too expensive. So, the kids just keep permits. I knew many families whose kids did not drive until their 20s.

I worked and earned my own money through high school, but I didn’t drive until 19 when I bought my own car and paid my own insurance.
