Louisiana Wildlife agents arrested a man early Friday morning after they spotted him walking down Bourbon Street carrying a live alligator.
Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries agents helping with security during Mardi Gras were patrolling the French Quarter around 1:30 a.m. when they saw a man, later identified as Eurell D. Johnson, walking in the 400 block of Bourbon Street with a 3- to 4-foot alligator.
When agents stopped Johnson, they also found him with a gun and marijuana. Agents learned Johnson is a convicted felon and cannot legally possess a firearm.
Agents arrested Johnson, 25, of New Roads, on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana, and possession of a live alligator.
The alligator was turned over to an on-call wildlife biologist. Agents also seized a pistol and marijuana. Johnson was booked into the Orleans Parish Jail.
If convicted, Johnson could face $1,000 to $5,000 in fines and five to 20 years in jail for the firearm charge. Illegal possession of a live alligator carries up to $950 in fines and 120 days in jail. The marijuana charge carries up to a $100 fine.

Two buds out for a night on the town. Cut them some slack.
It was an emotional support alligator!!!
It was an honest mistake. Almost everyone assumes Louisiana is an open gator carry state.

Gator vs wolf…for one, it is good reason. For the other, many FReepers said it was a crime.
Both were captured, taped and shown off at a bar by persons drunk/stoned and armed.
Choot em.
Most OG neck chains are gold or gold plated, DFW. You get extra credit for going with the solid steel look.
OK.
That explains the alligator.
I grew up about 100 miles north of New Orleans in Mississippi. Trust me when I say that’s not even close to the strangest thing I’ve seen in that place.
We stayed at the Parkside Inn out on St. Charles. My grandmother managed it when I was a girl, wanted my daughter to experience some family history.
Had obligatory dinner at Antoine’s then the next night at the VooDoo Cafe in the Quarter, just as good as Antoines at 1/3 the price.
Then a fellow in the bar in Parkside suggested a Black-run diner about a mile away for Oysters Rockefeller. He was right, oysters better than Antoines. They also served bottles of Raspberry Lager. I HATE beer but this was delish. Considering buying a case online at exorbitant price.
I remember that story. Wally is indeed, a handsome, caring and compassionate supporter.
Suggest you invite him for dinner next time you have the Bidens over.
I think he intended to get arrested. As for the gator, open carry.
