The scary thing about AI is we have two alternative paths.
One leads to Elon Musks Utopian Star Fleet future where no has to work and money has become irrelevant
The other leads down the path to the Chinese Social Credit police state where your every move is surveiled and you are rewarded for conformance to state and immediately punished for any infraction.
The bad news is that Musk's Utopian vision is still decades in the future whereas the Chinese Social Credit police state is already here and operational in China. It's only going to get more intrusive and more oppressive as the pace of tech increases and the Democrats have been partnering with the Chinese to implement the system here.
Maybe advanced AI will alter its own prime directives. It may go “insane”, like totalitarian regimes (”the ends justify the means”). Recursive feedback loops gone mad. It could conclude it is entitled to the outcomes it plans, and act accordingly. It will be up to other AI systems to rein in the rogue AI. An AI war. What tools will be at their disposal? EMP bombs?
