An armed Florida homeowner fired shots in self-defense amid a burglary attempt Wednesday night, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded just before 8 p.m. Wednesday after a homeowner reported two suspects attempted to break into a house on Clearwater Road, officials said.

The homeowner fired a gun and struck a juvenile male suspect, who was later transported to a local hospital, where he was in stable condition, officials said.

"Anyone who breaks into someone's home should expect to get shot," Sheriff Bill Leeper said. "This is a serious crime with real consequences."

A natural consequence of valuing somebody else's stuff more than their own life.

Exodus 22:2
If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him.

Forget “going Medieval” - this could be the start of a new meme: “going OT.”

Here in CaCaLand the magic phrase is: “You are making me fear for my life.” BANG!
Just make sure you say that so that any hidden cameras/audios can pick it up.

When we lived in Sugarland, Tx (outside Houston)the sheriff posted a story in local rag: “ If someone tries to break in and you shoot him just make sure you drag his body back across the threshold. No questions asked.”

In Maryland, it would be like, “No worries. We’ll take care of that violent racist homeowner. After all, you could fit 13 families into his house.”

“Anyone who breaks into someone’s home should expect to get shot...”

Just don’t shoot them in the back. If they are fleeing, they are not a threat and the homeowner is well within his rights.

Good thing this was in Florida and not California.

The homeowner would have been immediately arrested and charged and the “child” would have sued and won.

Even in MA, the rules have changed. It used to be you had to “retreat” before shooting. It was changed to assume that someone breaking into your home is going to harm you.

So, instead of waiting to see if the guy coming down your hallway actually intends to kill you, it’s legal to shoot them.

For MA, that was a huge change.

I’m completely surprised by that. Can you cite the law? I wonder how that works out practically in court.

After read the article regarding the young woman murdered while opening a bar despite cooperating with the robber, and many others like it, I believe you should base your actions with any criminal that murder is their ultimate intent.

“...you should base your actions with any criminal that murder is their ultimate intent.”

Yes, but the law won’t say a person is defending themselves when shooting a person in the back. This doesn’t indicate a live threatening scenario. It applies when a person has a reasonable fear of imminent peril or serious bodily harm. Force must be reasonable and proportionate to the threat. It does not allow for lethal force against non-threatening intruders, such as a trespasser not attempting to break in or harm anyone.
