Rand Paul weighs in on Alex Pretti: ‘I saw a man that was retreating’

Senate Homeland Security Committee Chair Rand Paul (R-Ky.) says he “saw no evidence” to back the claims of senior Trump administration officials that Alex Pretti was attempting to assault law enforcement officers and instead “saw a man that was retreating” when he was shot and killed by federal officers in Minneapolis.

“I saw no evidence — I saw a man that was retreating. He went to the middle of the street, he didn’t even obstruct traffic, he let a car go through. As the agents advanced on him, he retreated to the side of the street. A woman is violently pushed to the ground and he turns to help her and that’s when he is grabbed from behind,” Paul told Scott Pelley on CBS’s “60 Minutes.”

“I saw no evidence of him assaulting the police,” Paul said, contradicting Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who called Pretti a “domestic terrorist” and claimed he wanted to “inflict maximum damage on individuals and kill law enforcement.”

““saw a man that was retreating”

I saw a man directing protest activies.

I saw a man physically initiate an altercation during an ICE detention.

I saw a man with a striker-fired semi-automatic with a full magazine and one ine the chamber.

The same man that had been in an altercation previously with ICE.

“The real problem was the cop who accidently discharged the weapon.”

NO, the real problem was a violent person carrying a gun and fighting with ICE officers.

Given that models propensity for accidental discharge, it’s not the cops fault either. It’s just a shitty weapon.

"The real problem was the cop who accidently discharged the weapon."

The real problem was the domestic terrorist who regularly carried a weapon known for accidental discharges, repeatedly bringing that unsafe weapon to a protest, and then deliberately involving himself in yet another physical confrontation with ICE Agents.

I didn’t see any “yard rage” either when you got your ass beat while doing yard work.

To be fair, there was no video of the attack for anyone to see.

“The real problem was the cop who accidently discharged the weapon.”

That was a ‘trigger’ event but not the real problem.

The real problem is the organized interference of lawful government actions.

The second problem people getting involved armed and killing .

False denial is a deceptive strategy where an individual denies experiencing or performing an event that actually occurred. Often used to avoid accountability, it can induce “denial-induced forgetting” (DIF), where the person genuinely forgets the event, particularly in high-involvement situations. It is considered a lower-cognitive-load lie compared to fabricating stories, but complex denials can still cause memory errors.
