I agree: it’s hard to keep warm in the house. One of my daughters got me electric socks for Christmas. They’re pretty amazing.

“I like that her shoes are neutral and relatively practical, instead of some strappy stilettos”

👍🏻👍🏻

That “tablecloth” most likely is covering a tie. It’s a scarf / “muffler” for cold weather. (People who haven’t lived in very cold weather aren’t familiar with the muffler.)

Her dress is fine. I have no issue with it. The shoes are passable. The jacket looks like an afterthought. Maybe she was among the dozen people or so in the country who hadn’t heard about the big winter storm on the way? The Purse? I’m sure it was expensive, but unless it has some beadwork or something on the front, it doesn’t cut it. Like I said originally., it looks like she went out and bought a dress, but never gave much thought to the rest of her outfit.

Freepers can be catty (the women) and shallow (the men) with the best of them.

I think she looks fine and is probably a bit chilly .

She would like fine in a down jacket which is probably what she wishes she had at that moment.

Sorry, but it doesn’t look she put a lot of thought into her complete outfit. Looks like she got a dress and called it good.

I imagine it looks much better once she removed her fuzzy jacket, which was an afterthought due to an unexpected cold snap in the South. The dress itself is beautiful, with gorgeous fabric, and she chose perfectly matching shoes with sensible heels. She is an accomplished, wealthy computer nerd in her own right. The dress is "business dressy", not letting it all hang out.

“The dress itself is beautiful, with gorgeous fabric, and she chose perfectly matching shoes with sensible heels.”

Reminds me a bit of Kate Middleton.

“Reminds me a bit of Kate Middleton.”

That’s right! I hadn’t thought of that.

Compare her outfit to what Kimberly Guilfoyle would’ve worn (if she hadn’t been sent packing into exile).

Women normally put a lot more thought into what they’ll wear to a wedding..

She is a top-tier, front-edge serious businesswoman. She does not want to look like a trashy bimbo. The dress is beautiful and conservative.

I wear mukluk cabin socks. But they're all in the wash so I'm in a combo of socks and slippers.

Can't get to the laundromat...car socked in..you don't shovel at age 82...or even go out...I fell twice last year...learned my lesson.

That waitress story was fiction, created on a fiction web site, according to Snopes.

Well, she’s no glamour girl.

So many folks on this thread seem to think Musk's woman should look like a Vegas tramp, instead of what she is: a brainy, forward-thinking, top-level computer developer and innovator, who is also a mother and does not spend her valuable time on style narcissism.

It amazes me the prejudice on this thread against an intellectual woman who don't wish to be assumed to be a streetwalker when she meets new people socially. Before this, Musk's women were from the arts or Hollywood. He has finally found an companion of the mind, and freepers are wringing their hands that she doesn't care to dress for the red carpet.

To quote Shakespeare, “Let not to the marriage of true minds admit impediment.”

(Nothing personal, GG2!)

That term drives me nuts too. Partner is someone you’re in business with, not in love.

Influential publishers develop standard style guides that its writers must follow, which is how some of these wording innovations get popularized. The link lists a couple dozen major writing style guides.

Back in the 70s and 80s when living together and sex relationships without marriage became more common, US publications were attacked for "infantilizing" women by captioning them as "girls" or "girlfriends" when women were trying to find roles not limited to homemaking. UK newspapers chose “partner” as a term that would be neutral for unmarried couples also including its numerous gay celebrities, clergy and members of the upper classes.

Musk's background in South Africa and Canada leaned British, so he tends to use British expressions. The OP originated on his site, X. The internet and the influence of online British publications like Daily Mail and The Guardian have spread this term to the US.
