I was in Tokyo for a few days in late March last year. We went to the lounge of our hotel at the ~45th floor level. Amazing number of red aircraft lights on tops of buildings, and could see a couple of helipads. Looked at Google Maps, and you can see *lots* of helipads scattered around.

I imagine NYC is similar. But not as nice.

yes, mega rich people have helipads, at their homes. But where do they land when they take them somewhere? Cant land at the grocery store, or the mall, or the school, or anywhere normal people go using cars.

I’m going to imagine those helipads are special purpose and not available to the great unwashed masses. Even if you’re a billionaire you likely won’t get some private helipad to let you land on your daily commute. The security risk to the owner would be great. Not to mention what insurance carriers will have to say about this.

It was lawsuits that ended American dominance of the personal aircraft industry. If a private plane is sold new, the cost is tripled to cover the potential liability that the builder might suffer. The lawyers are probably smiling, while sipping champagne and urging this on from blind media accounts.
