This looks like a setup to me.
The soldiers are far more likely to fire on "mostly peaceful protesters" than the sheriff deputies. And then the sheriff deputies can be ordered to arrest the soldiers.
Or the soldiers can be ordered to protect the "mostly peaceful protesters" as they riot and attack Federal facilities and staff. The guardsmen won't be issued ammunition but will be ordered to stop Federal officers from resisting the rioters in any way. Some of the rioters will be carrying visible firearms and a predictable crisis will occur.
My bet is on that second scenario.
When the Minnesota National Guard is in place, on the streets, it can and possibly will be Federalized and thus a tool supporting ICE
I agree. This is a setup.
Both scenarios will happen.
Trump will be blamed once the National Guard shoots someone. People think he is controlling the Guard.
Trump is correct by not nationalizing the Guard.
