Jim Cornelison is superb. He also sings “Back Home Again in Indiana” for the Indy 500, and his rendition is very moving.

The national anthem should be sung corporately. It is a ‘We, the people” thing. Singing it corporately makes it so, despite any weaknesses or sour notes.
To have soloists perform it detracts, drawing attention away from our corporate reality.
