Not beta blockers. They have the bad side effect of slowing the heart rate down, not a good choice for some people who already have a slower heart rate.

An angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) seems to have least side effects.

Also, there are lifestyle changes one can make. Getting a good night’s sleep, dietary changes, losing weight, exercise, especially walking, and learning to manage stress.

They can help and even if they don’t eliminate the need for the medication, they could allow for a lower dose.

Exactly right about lifestyle! I changed my lifestyle at age 55. Quit stressful high paying job, gradually increased walking to 30 miles every week playing golf without getting bored. That transformed my life completely. Now only thing I have to do is avoid eating salty foods to keep blood pressure in happy range. Great to be alive nearing 86, with no pains, no medical expense and good energy. You
