They gave short shrift to whole grains.

Beans are not visible in the chart at all.

Both are very, very healthy foods.

Theyre near the bottom, both as a topping to the bowl of rice and two beans (white and red) just under the peanut.

A bag is clearly labeled "beans." Do you need to see the physical beans?

Foods that are high in starch such as whole grains should be eaten in combination with foods that are high in protein, and healthful fats. Either that or they should be eaten after you have had such foods. Yes whole grains are healthful but they still will raise blood sugar (at a much lower rate due to their fiber content than refined grains) so how and when they are eaten does make a difference. They should not be the building block of our diet as the old pyramid shows.
