No israeli ship would attack any USFOR.

The USS Liberty, a U.S. Navy technical research ship, was attacked by Israeli Air Force jet fighter aircraft and Israeli Navy motor torpedo boats on June 8, 1967, during the Six-Day War. The official explanation from Israel and the U.S. governments is that the attack was a mistake due to Israeli forces misidentifying the USS Liberty as an Egyptian ship. However, this conclusion remains highly controversial, with many survivors and some U.S. officials asserting the attack was deliberate.

Yes, BUT would you trust Lyndon B Johnson prowling around in Israeli territorial waters unannounced? He had just started the Vietnam war with the bogus Gulf of Tonkin incident.

I prefer to believe it was an accident, but you know Dems....they have long liked to collect intel and give it to the Islamofascists.

The USS Liberty was an intel gathering vessel , signals intel. Johnston knew it should not have been there.
