I too grew up in a very thrifty household and yes, it gets ingrained into your attitude about spending. To this day I still stop to pick up loose change on the street. ;)

For over 30 years my wife has made a game of trying to find at least a penny per day. At the close of yesterday and 2025 she found $15.01. She has never found less than $10 and some years much more. This year she didn't find any bills.

I often wished that I’d put all the change I found into an aggressive fund. Interesting to run several hypothetical scenarios over many years.
