8 degrees at Reveille this morning. Zone 5a, SW Wisconsin. Heading for a high of 18, then we fall off a temperature cliff. -1 by Monday morning. We did get some snow, about a 3" cover - light and fluffy. Loving that. It covers up the Winter Yuck! Got a Spring Fix at Menard's yesterday - 15% off sale and I loaded up my bag/cart with garden supplies and seeds for SPRING. Yay! Today I tackle the grow rack and get that organized and tuned up for seed starting in the future. A perfect Winter Day activity. Have a Great Day, Everyone!
Ugh, that cold front is on its way across Lake Michigan and we are in the lake effect area in SW MI, up to 10” and is a hit or miss.
The good news is that all the wood stove ashes seem to work better than any fertilizer, especially on raised beds!

Light snow this morning, maybe a 1/4 inch, but it will be gone by noon. We get colder weather next week with highs in the 20’s & 30’s, lows in the teens, single digit Tuesday night.
No gardening activities today, but will be putting on a whole chicken to simmer for a pot of Chicken & Vegetable soup. There’s a college basketball game at noon (family’s favorite team) & 2 NFL games this afternoon/evening. Sports on TV, for me, is conducive to crocheting & I’m about 1/3 through a large project so I’ll be working away and staying warm. It’s a ‘classic’ winter weekend :-)
Good morning, good food, good FRiends. BUMP!
Good morning! Had a dusting of snow again overnight. The temps are heading down to the point where I don’t like to spend much time outside. I did my meal planning and grocery shopping yesterday so I don’t have to run errands again until Tuesday or Wednesday. Yay!
Will work on tidying up the place, and maybe doing a deep clean on *something* around here. I haven’t decided what I’m in the mood to take on.
Football will be on in the late afternoon and evening for the next 3 days. Should be fun!
Have a blessed day/weekend, FRiends!
Two months until spring.
My mom always told me that the worst of the bad weather is usually past by St Pattie’s Day. She was right.
Another couple weeks and I’ll be starting my onions. After checking maturity dates, etc, I want to also start some cabbage, turnips, snow peas, and carrots.
I started my own gardening document on my computer. I pick up tidbits of info on growing different things from different sources and am compiling what I need to know for this area.

Good morning from Oregon...we are suffering a snow drought...while Mt. Hood may have gotten @110 inches there only remains barely enough to ski on...and we are going to suffer this summer from water problems if this continues. Had our first real freeze this past week..I still have snap dragons, penstemon and geraniums blooming! And, we live between 2 mountains, albeit on the river, at about 400 ft. Have a great weekend, everyone. Prepping here for 11 family coming for next weekend.
Wifey loved the picture - thanks.
Did the Menards thing last week.
Up to 2° now with widely scattered riots.
The weather here in Central Missouri has been decent over the past week but if the weather guessers are right we’re headed for single digit temps later in the week along with the possibility of some snowfall.
I put round bales out last weekend and put a bundle of idiot cubes in the hay stall yesterday. I need to put a bag of corn chop in the bulk feeder later today. With those things done I’ll be as ready for bad weather as I can be, at least in terms of keeping the critters fed.
Mrs. Augie cleaned out the chicken house yesterday and tossed the poo into the raised beds out front. That should be all of the soil improvement they need to be ready for spring planting.
Follow-up appointment with my spine doc is on Thursday. Hopefully she’ll have some treatment options lined up for me. I’m really tired of being Big Chief Broken Back.
Howard is close to earning free rein in the house while we’re indoors. We have a baby gate that’s hinged like an accordion that is working well to keep him out of the kitchen. He could jump it with very little effort but so far he hasn’t shown any interest in doing that.
