House Republicans just introduced the “Make Elections Great Again” Act.
The MEGA Act would:
- Require photo ID to vote
- Require citizenship verification to register to vote
- Require states use paper ballots for federal elections
- Voter roll maintenance requirements
- Requires mail in ballots be received on election day
- Bans ballot harvesting
- Bans ranked choice voting
- Bans Universal vote by mail
- Bans partisan voter initiatives

That is a great start. Congress should add to the bill:
A ban of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) which says that a state’s electoral votes go to the candidate that wins the popular vote, i.e. attempt to circumvent the constitutional amendment process.
18 states, all blue, currently have approved this unconstitutional measure.
If Thune won’t nuke the filibuster rule this goes nowhere. But the House Rupubs can go home and campaign om “well, we tried”.
I hope this is not just for show. We will see if this even sees the light of day in the Senate.
