In 1600 an ancestor (on mymother;s side) was burned at the stake in Massachusetts for being a Quaker. She lived in Rhode Island where there was religious freedom but risked going to Massachusetts.
Interestestingly, also in 1600 another relative (father’s side I believe) was burned at the stake in Merry Old England for being the wrong religion (either Catholic or Protestant, which ever was “wrong” at the time).

Almost Go Time.

Protestant, early during Henry VIII's reign. Later, wanting a divorce from one of his wives - which the Pope denied him - the King reversed his stand. (Henry had syphilis 🤷) Many good Christians were burned at that early stage, including William Tyndale, whose authoritative English translations of both the Old Testament and New Testament contributed greatly to the later King James translation, still popular today.
