Yup. they would lose their seniority.

Comment people are brainless.

I know a few cops who have retired after 25 years, now going into I.C.E.

Stay safe guys.

Seniority is everything. If they bid their schedules like we did in the airlines, it means what days you work, hours, holidays, and of course, pay scale. I knew a lot of flight attendants who were married to firefighters or cops because they could bid complimentary schedules so someone was always home with the kids. When you are used to getting weekends and holidays off and not working night shifts, it’s pretty significant to lose that seniority and start all over with a crap schedule. It’s a decision most would not take lightly, so you know things are pretty bad if a cop with 5-10 years seniority is willing to quit and start over somewhere else… unless other cities are offering perks to get them to move.

Now those cops who retired and then start over are a different story. I know one who retired from a big city PD and got offered a position as chief of police at a small town in the same state. That’s called double-dipping on pensions and should be illegal. Then he did it again, so he was a triple-dipper. Can’t blame him for making the best retirement possible, but still don’t think it should be allowed in the same state and dinging the same taxpayers 3x.
