Iconic American brewer launches beer so strong it's banned in 15 states: What to know

There's a beer on the market so strong it rivals cocktails — and it's illegal in parts of the U.S.

Earlier in the fall, Samuel Adams announced the release of its Utopias 2025, a "barrel-aged extreme beer" that packs an impressive 30% alcohol by volume (ABV).

"Utopias 2025 is one of the strongest beers ever brewed, and as a result, is illegal in 15 states," the release said.

The banned states are Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont and West Virginia, according to the company.

Utopias is Samuel Adams' experimental beer program — designed to test the limits of beer aging and blending techniques.

Rarely drink beer anymore. Just didn't like the taste one day and that was that.

Thank goodness for bourbon, whiskey, tequila, and wine.

And scotch...

...

And cognac...

I'm sure there are other tasty not-beers as well.

In the 70s or 80s in California I bought EKU 28 a few times, it was at 11%.

Samuel Adams Triple Bock is a legendary, high-alcohol (around 18% ABV), non-carbonated, dark, syrupy beer from the 1990s (vintages 1994, 1995, 1997)

I’ll tell you what it’ll do to the flavor, it’ll ruin it it’s just another way of catering to the I’m going to get drunk in a hurry crowd

It’s been a long time but I’ve had 15% German beer and it just was a little bit too much in terms of degrading the flavor. I imagine 30% will ruin it quite nicely but it’ll go well with the college crowd that does shots instead of enjoying good liquor

And one beer

It works with a vial for Dr. Pepper at McDonald's and Coke on a plane, I take less than 3 ounces but haven't flown in a while so don't know if the TSA limit is still there.

“Not at $260 a bottle.”

WHAT? Who is going to buy that?

Like my parents used to say: "People with more money than brains."
