I got shingles in about 2018. It wasn’t fun.
I was ready to get the shingles vaccine around about 2019 or 2020 but then COVID hit and they were pushing the COVID vaccine. I didn’t trust them, and I knew I wouldn’t get the COVID vaccine. I also figured that if I got the shingles vaccine, they might just slip a little something “extra” in there just for me. So I skipped the shingles vaccine.
Taking my chances at this point — I don’t expect to ever get any vaccine for anything.
I know what you mean. I got it almost like clockwork when I turned 50 in 2007. I didn’t know what it was at first and when I couldn’t sleep I went into the local hospital emergency which was almost empty then in the middle of the night. They quickly knew I had shingles and asked when I first noticed it. I said 3 days ago. They said the medication they were going to give me has to commence within 3 days of onset to be effective so I got it and it worked in treating me but like you say...not fun. I was told it would reduce the likelihood of recurrence but not by 100% I’ve thought of getting Shingrix but have not gotten it. Partly out of laziness but since covid I’m also now wary of a lot of stuff. Shingles has not recurred for me since that 2007 bout. I take enough medication as it is and lots vitamins as well so this bit of news will probably kill any idea of getting it.
Since you’ve had shingles, you know how it starts and what the rash looks like.
If you get to the dr/urgent care within 2-3n days of starting symptoms, you can get medicine to halt the viral replication and have a milder case of it.
Mr mm isn’t going to get the vaccine either, but we do know what to look for this time and will not wait.
Everyone I told to do this had a mild case of shingles (myself included).
If it's near your eye also consult an eye doctor.
I had never gotten the flu vaccine, and
then I heard they were guessing on which flu
to protect people from.
Could be this one could be that one.
Let’s go with this one this year.
It doesn’t protect you from the flu.
Just a certain flu.
Lots of variance.
So every time I was asked, I said no.
Then Covid hit
Now it’s like nope I do not want any kind of vaccine.
I had shingles about 15 years ago.
On the side of the rib cage.
The aching was constant.
Very annoying.
Doc finally gave some cream to
smear on it and it was better.
I would rather have the flu.
I would rather have shingles.
I would rather get Covid.
Do you remember the end of the
movie “World War Z”
The plan is to give everyone a disease.
My hubby got shingles not too long ago.
Knew what I was looking at the morning he woke up with it because I had cared for his mom.
Got him an appointment that morning, got an antiviral for it.
He had a few days of minor discomfort, nothing compared to what his mom experienced.
He hasn’t had it since.
He isn’t interested in the vaxx when the antiviral worked well for him.
