They hid behind state seals, played legal shell games with ballot locations, and treated public record requests like personal insults. But as of December 2025, the game has changed. The Department of Justice (DOJ), now acting as a legal strike force under the Trump administration, has launched a federal offensive that is sending shockwaves through the Georgia political establishment.
Led by assistant attorney general Harmeet Dhillon, the DOJ has filed a massive lawsuit in the Northern District of Georgia to force Fulton County to surrender every used and void ballot, signature envelope, and digital record from 2020. The target is clear: total transparency, backed by the threat of criminal indictments.

We saw in VA where early votes were accepted well before the public found out about the AG candidate's threats of violence toward opposition politicians.
It’s the terms that are confusing and perplexing. “mail in” and “absentee”....
Absentee isn’t EARLY but a person does have the right to go to a designated spot here, where EARLY voting is being done. I’ve never done that but have had to vote Absentee in recent years...The ballot has to be back in the mail and received by a certain time. Voted for years in CA and we were always provided with proposition information - for/against - and bio on everyone running for office...That’s missing here in GA so we do have to pay attention and search for the info online.

Well, the certifiably disabled and off-shore Americans need mail-in balloting but it should not be allowed for any other reason. In-person early voting is OK as long as the ‘early’ part is only a few days - 7 or less. Multi-week lead times result in issues like the one you describe.
