In a reflection of Hollywood’s ongoing decline, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced the Academy Awards will depart from network TV and move to streaming on YouTube beginning in 2029.
The ceremony will continue on ABC through 2028, the 100th Anniversary of the Oscars.
Ratings for the show have been on a steady downward decline for years for reasons that seem obvious to everyone except people in Hollywood.
America stopped paying attention because people don’t want to be lectured about politics from rich liberals who live in a bubble.
Ratings for the once ‘must-watch tv’ have continued to decline in recent years, including record lows in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
AP reports:
But starting in 2029, YouTube will retain global rights to streaming the Oscars through 2033. YouTube will effectively be the home to all things Oscars, including red-carpet coverage, the Governors Awards and the Oscar nominations announcement.
“We are thrilled to enter into a multifaceted global partnership with YouTube to be the future home of the Oscars and our year-round Academy programming,” said academy chief executive Bill Kramer and academy president Lynette Howell Taylor.
“The Academy is an international organization, and this partnership will allow us to expand access to the work of the Academy to the largest worldwide audience possible — which will be beneficial for our Academy members and the film community.”
Over the years, the ceremony has become an opportunity for out-of-touch stars to signal their woke beliefs and attack Donald Trump and his supporters.
New diversity rules were imposed by the Oscars several years ago, which stipulate that to be eligible for the “Best Picture” award, films must meet two of four specified diversity benchmarks.
Fresh from her Oscar win for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Everything Everywhere All at Once, Jamie Lee Curtis ensured that woke politics were front and center by tearfully announcing that she had given her Oscar statue they/them pronouns in support of her trans daughter, Ruby.
In his speech, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” co-director Daniel Scheinert thanked his parents for letting him dress in drag as a child as the crowd roared their approval.
In 2024, host Jimmy Kimmel went on a Trump Derangement-fueled rant.

When Rob Reiner was acting and directing, he churned out content many people enjoyed
In retirement he may (???) have been starring at the walls with nothing to occupy his time. That’s when he lost it (???) and started lashing out at folks (President Trump) with insane opinions
Not in Indy. The race was blacked out live here until just a couple of years ago.
It’s not just the pretentious, arrogant speeches they give, all the movies that get nominated for best picture now are boring art house or preachy woke junk. For the last ten years I have never heard of 90% of the best picture nominees. There is usually one commercially successful film nominated but it does not have a chance. The rest of the nominees are movies I had never heard of before the Oscars and never heard of again after the Oscar’s.
The blackout rule, I forget. Nationally no blackout, but there is in Indianapolis, and for a good reason to protect a live gate (which helps demand) Same rules as the NFL before Obama got in and my then-Congressman’s dóttir decided to tell the NFL no more of this protecting the live gate rules.
Banning live gate protections is a sham. Why can’t businesses protect their gate?
thanks

David is one of the oldest tales in our history. This is the only family and faith based movie coming out this Christmas season.
Disney and Paramount are allegedly using their distribution strength to keep David out of theaters. They are allegedly threatening to withhold Zootopia, Avatar and SpongeBob from theaters that show David.
Why are Disney and Paramount allegedly targeting a Christian movie? Based on their history and woke agenda in their movies, this raises serious questions.
Disney and Paramount don’t want the competition of a child friendly, family oriented movie from a small studio like Angel Studios.

Many people do not respect Hollywood and the dysfunctional acting community.
To want to become an actor, you have to be a little obsessive and narcissistic to begin with. And once you achieve that goal, it becomes a mental disorder.............
Those actors show no respect for anyone. They think they are GOD instead of standing in under GOD.
Oh, I understood why they blacked out the live race in Indy. I had no real issues with it. Glad they lifted the local blackout though.
“I haven’t watched them in many years.”
Me either. Once upon a time, the Oscars was a showcase of classiness. Now that’s gone.
Not that they were classy down deep — don’t know that — but at least they put on a wholesome show.
The appeal to about 30% of the population who share their TDS hatred. Not a good business model for ratings. I heard that there were 4 Hollywood buds (Billy Krystal et al) of Reiner who sent a joint statement yesterday. In it they praised reiner and wife's political activism. No, they don't get it.
Plus they limit their filthy tirades to 2 minutes before the music starts, this way they can take all the time they want to spew hate.
People in Hollywood egos hit hardest.
Originally, the Academy Awards was just a way to recognize actors, directors and other industry types for their good work. It wasn’t televised, no TV at the time. I don’t know if it was broadcast on that new-fangled radio thingy.................
The last time I rooted for an actor to win the Oscar, was Gary Oldman for his 2017 portrayal of Winston Churchill in “Darkest Hour.” I didn’t think they’d give it to him because of the character he was portraying, but they did. I figured it would be one of the two black actors up for the award that year, one being Denzel Washington.
new-fangled radio thingy
Indeed radio up to the 60’s had better entertainment then TV better writers paid off.
TV is like keeping the bon fire lit keep tossing trash on it.
Local blackout applies if there is no sellout. But the move of the Oscars shows how elitism brings money but the cost of elitism is fewer people watching.
However, they believe elites should be the only people to watch anything.
I forgot where our TV is. I think its out in the garage somewhere.
The Indy 500 never sells out. Historically, you’ve always been able to get an infield ticket.
