Drop some RAM on that box and do a Virtual Machine instead. That way, you don’t have to reboot to use Linux. That’s how we did our Ubuntu Java development. Some departments did their email and browsing in Java VM’s. If it got ransomed, they blew it away and re-deployed.

True, but going the VM route throws more stress on the processor and chews memory while dual-boot eliminates that problem. I'd do that if I were still using towers where I can fiddle with cooling but I'm in prison an acute care facility where personal space is limited; so laptops it is.

(I'm not in prison, just the food menu thinks I am)
