'Hypocrite' Mark Zuckerberg sparks backlash as his enormous new $300m 387-foot mega yacht goes viral

Mark Zuckerberg has found himself at the center of an embarrassing climate change flip-flop, thanks to his $300 million mega yacht.

The 41-year-old Meta boss, worth roughly $230 billion, has reportedly been burning hundreds of thousands of gallons of diesel fuel since launching his personal, 387-foot vessel last year.

The yacht, dubbed Launchpad, runs on four diesel engines that use about 291 gallons of fuel every hour, which allegedly emits 40 tons of CO₂ over that same period of time.

Zuckerberg, an outspoken advocate for climate change policies such as the Paris Agreement and scaling carbon dioxide removal technologies to limit global warming, has been roasted on social media over the yacht's massive carbon footprint.

'Another reminder that Net Zero is only for the peasants,' one person wrote on X next to a video of the massive luxury vessel sailing near Florida.

'Meanwhile ordinary people drive electric cars and recycle, because the planet matters. But for him, apparently, the planet doesn't matter,' another social media user added.

Others called the multi-million-dollar yacht the ultimate 'symbol of hypocrisy,' as Zuckerberg has spent more than $100 million funding climate advocacy and related initiatives through his philanthropic organization.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Meta, which owns Facebook, and Zuckerberg for comment.

Some critics of Zuckerberg's lavish mode of transportation noted that Launchpad was just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to climate hypocrisy.

The mega yacht has been accompanied on its journeys by a 220-foot, $30 million support ship called Wingman, which can carry smaller boats, a miniature submarine for exploration and even a helicopter.

'Rich people when they say "we’re all in this together" then fire up four diesel engines,' an X user commented.

A good woman to share your life with is worth way more than $300 million.

From Perplexity.ai:

Current public portals show that the low end of Upper West Side condo asking prices is roughly in the high‑$600,000s to low‑$700,000s for smaller one‑bedroom or studio units, with most condos priced well above $1 million.

Suggest you either get a straw buyer, or stay at hotels, preferably under an assumed name, paying cash.

If New York finds out that you are sitting on a pile of cash, and that you have any connection with the city at all, it WILL find a way to grab some of it.

"How does 8 pounds of fuel convert to 22 pounds of CO2?"

When the diesel fuel is burned, the two oxygen atoms of the carbon dioxide produced come from the air, as well as another oxygen atom that combines with two hydrogen atoms in the hydrocarbon fuel to produce water vapor. (There are some other minor byproducts such as CO, nitrogen compounds, and soot.)

Nice boat I want one.

Of course it would take my entire 401K just to fuel it once and one night of dock porterage put me 30K in debt.

I would have to hire illegal Mexicans as the crew and they also take a bight.

291 gallons of fuel do not produce 40 tons of CO2.

Thank you for recognizing that modern journalists never learned even the most basic scientific facts. At most 291 gallons of diesel fuel could produce 291 x 7.1 pounds of carbon, assuming that the fuel was 100% carbon, which it isn't, combined with the proportionate amount of oxygen.

According to the EPA each gallon of diesel fuel generates about 22.4 pounds of CO2. So the actual CO2 output of the yacht per hour is 6,518.4 pounds, or about 3.26 tons of CO2 per hour.

That still seems like a lot of CO2 generation just for an hour of recreation for somebody who presumably claims to be concerned about global warming, but that's typical for the "fly my jet to Davos to talk about global warming" club.

How does 8 pounds of fuel convert to 22 pounds of CO2?

Each carbon atom in the fuel gets attached to either one or two oxygen molecules, creating CO and CO2. Apparently as a result of the combustion conditions in a diesel engine CO2 is produced at about 100 times the rate of carbon monoxide.

Kids and their toys.

I just sold my Migaloo M5 and Im heading over to christen my Colossea mega the day after tomorrow.

I had briefly considered cheaping out and just buying a nice little Air Yacht. Only ten bedrooms, two days range, and no escape aircraft? Im glad I came to my senses.

Will Zuck experience the two happiest days of a boat owner?
The day he buys it and the day he sells it.

Bezos
Zuck
Gates
Paul Allen.
Larry Ellison
Steve Jobs wife. And so many more

All eco warriors at some point. Vial hypocrites is more accurate.

I would give my money to support animal rights groups
a vast number of animal rescue groups
about 10 acres for personal food production
and a 100-foot indoor target range
a modest motor home
Just to name a couple of reasonable thingies

Wonder how many ex Navy Seals he has on the crew for security and what weapons are on that ship. Quite a prize for blackmail if he were on it and the ship was taken by nefarious types.

**Aircraft of every type, yes. Tasty vintage piston driven fighter. Maybe a F-86, too.**

I’d settle for a Helio Stallion in mint condition. I like an airplane that barely needs a runway.
