Silver prices have punched through $60 per ounce for the first time amid a historic rally driven by a scarcity of supply and a surge in demand from investors.

The metal has more than doubled in price since January, as years of undersupply, compounded by strong demand from industrial users and investors, led to shortages and a severe supply squeeze in October.

Silver jumped 4 per cent on Tuesday to reach $60.4 per ounce, a fresh record high. Gold also rose 0.7 per cent to reach $4,216 per troy ounce, slightly below the record set in October.

This week expectations of a rate cut by the US Federal Reserve, which meets Wednesday, have boosted precious metals.

“In the very near term, the focus is on the Fed rate meeting,” said Suki Cooper, analyst at Standard Chartered.

“Underlying the move is the fact that we have a market that has been undersupplied for the past five years, and we still have regional stocks dislocation,” she added.....

The Hunt bros had cornered two-thirds of the market back then.

“Not to brag but I started getting in in the 90’s when it was at 12. “

Definitely not a brag.

Up 5x. S&P up 10x.

Silver was up over $80 under Little Jimmy Cah-ter.

I don't remember silver spot ever being that high. I know it reached 50 back in the 1980s. But never 80.

Ok... so it just squeaked over the $50 mark on January 18, 1980 with the Hunt Bros doing their market cornering maneuver. However, $50 in 1980 is worth about $200 today....

I do not believe it got that high:

January 1980: Briefly touched $49.45 per ounce during a market corner attempt.
April 2011: Reached approximately $48.70 per ounce.

What is silver’s all-time high price?

The silver all-time high was US$60.56, which it set on December 9, 2025.

The price of silver has rallied in 2025, and first broke its previous all-time high on October 9. Since then, it has tested the US$54 mark multiple times, before finally making a decisive move above it on November 28. That day, the silver price spiked to US$56.53 following a 10 hour shutdown of trading on the CME Group’s (NASDAQ:CME) Comex and surrounding speculation on the cause.

Silver continued setting new highs over the following week, with the latest coming on December 9, as expectations of a US Federal Reserve rate cut at the December 9 to 10 meeting rose.

Before October 9 of this year, the white metal’s all-time high had been the same for 45 years — silver’s former all-time high was US$49.95, and it was set on January 17, 1980.

However, $50 in 1980 is worth about $200 today....

Trump is openly talking, in various ways and various times, abolish the IRS taxes due to tariffs. That is the faux cover story for ending the IRS and FED, but in an easy to understand, for now, rationale for end of IRS 1040 taxes.

In this transition, many things we value today will revert to their intrinsic value. Intrinsic value of 1 oz of Gold is... 1 oz of Gold. Intrinsic value of 1 oz of Silver is... 1 oz of Silver. Intrinsic value of anything else, essentially derivatives of real money, including dollars, S&P, DOW, BTC, NASDAQ,Yen,Euro, etc, is... zero.

Just noting that the chance of silver reaching a new all-time low is 0%.

“Just noting that the chance of silver reaching a new all-time low is 0%.”

When I used to trade commodities in the 80’s we always said: the ______ market will always find support at zero.

Watched a man short three 5,000 oz silver contracts at about $15.00/oz just when the Hunt brothers started their corner. He couldn’t get out for four days and had to sell both sides of a duplex he owned...

I remember the silver high from the 80’s VERY well.
