DO YOUR OWN DAMN SHOPPING-—SAVE THE GRIEF
I suspect the mentality is they left it here, it’s mine.
How is it an assault if she didn't fire the weapon?
Assault is the threat; battery would be an actual attack.
That does not comport with my understanding of the law.
Assault is the physical attempt; battery would be actual contact or physical harm. In this case, unless the weapon is fired, there was no attempt.
Did they order chicken?
"Admit" ... as though that were something wrong or suspicious.
“Young Lady, I’m gonna tell you one time, you put the two boxes of Dave’s Hot Chicken Extra-Extra Spicy right back down on my front porch where you found them, turn around, walk back to yo car and drive away, there won’t be no trouble!”
Alternate scenario:
The woman denied threatening to push the victim down her front porch stairs, but did admit to having several flights of stairs at her home.
In every gun handling course I’ve had and in numerous instances at the range, we are told endlessly to never point a gun at anyone/anything if you don’t intend to fire it.
This would be considered a threat. It would be interesting to see what the law or statute actually says regarding pointing a firearm at someone..
That is of a piece demonizing the tool (stairs/gun) rather than the act using the tool.
Assault is the physical attempt; battery would be actual contact or physical harm. In this case, unless the weapon is fired, there was no attempt.

That’s where the crime of assault with a dangerous weapon originates. If you point a weapon at someone, you commit the crime. Furthermore, never point a weapon (loaded or unloaded) at any living thing you don’t want to kill. It’s the first rule in gun safety. Always keep the business end of the weapon pointed in a safe direction.
It's really sad that our society has devolved to a point where one party would threaten a neighbor with a gun over a food delivery.
UPS or Amazon once delivered a package for my across-the-road neighbor to my house and it was heavy, maybe a generator. It was too heavy to carry across the road, so I got my hand truck and took it over there.
As artist Terry Madden used to say, "Be kind to one another".
No, he was correct.
“That does not comport with my understanding of the law.”
I hope your understanding can be corrected.
Given all the criminals and illegal aliens the Regal judges and DEA DAs have refused to prosecute or have turned loose it’s no surprise folks are nervous and might over react when a stranger comes knocking at their door.
No, assault is “ An intentional act that places another person in reasonable apprehension of imminent harmful or offensive contact. Pointing a gun at someone, or displaying it in a threatening way, almost always satisfies this definition.”
In fact, brandishing a weapon is typically deemed some kind of “aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.”
“I suspect the mentality is they left it here, it’s mine.”
Is that an alternative language?
