Tennessee grandfather and his 3-month-old grandkid mauled to death by 7 pit bulls at home
New York Post ^ | December 6, 2025 | Anna Young

A grandfather and his 3-month-old granddaughter were found dead in their Tennessee home — apparently mauled to death by the family’s pack of pit bulls that were known to terrorize the neighborhood.

The lifeless body of James Alexander Smith, 50, was found inside the Tullahoma home Wednesday afternoon while the tiny tot was still being attacked by their 7 dogs, all of which police had to gun down to reach the bloodied victims, according to the 14th Judicial District Attorney General.

The infant had tragically died by the time cops fought their way to her.

Authorities are now investigating whether the pair were mauled to death or were already dead before the dog attack.

“This was an especially difficult and brutal scene,” Attorney General Craig Northcott said in the release...

Neighbor Brian Kirby — who said the same pack killed his beloved cat just a week earlier — came home from work to find the infant’s mom screaming in the middle of the street moments before police arrived.

When he offered help, the hysterical woman darted back into the devastated Warren Street home. Kirby admitted he’d witnessed the dogs attack other animals in the neighborhood — even his own pet — but never imagined they’d turn on people, FOX 8 reported.

“I don’t believe that they thought this would ever happen,” the neighbor told the outlet.

“I’m sure it was not done on purpose. I think that people just have animals, and they just need to put them on a leash better; that’s all. And I’m not blaming them for what happened at all. I know that they’re devastated more than we are because it’s their family,” he continued.

“I would never leave a 3 month old with a grandfather”

‘This should go on the Freeper list of historical brainless comments.’

How kind. You’ve been here since 2004. You recall FR was not a nasty place.

I speak from experience, I am also educated in human development

You’ve left your 3 month old with your father. Alone. For hours/babysittibg?

How did it go?

I've heard people comment that Pitbulls get a bad rap, that it's the owners. I've replied...yer ass.

People should not be allowed to have this breed of dog.

Uh... I know someone whose main threat that they carry a concealed weapon for is a sudden surprise by a vicious dog.

One can usually talk one’s way out of a problem with a person - usually - but a bad dog requires flight or fight, right now.

Yes, my friend did mention to me that if one shoots a dog it’s very much in one’s favor legally to have a bite wound on their person. Not particularly optimal but better than the alternative.

I didn’t mean it personally. I was simply stating an objective fact.

When a pitbull kills a person, the pitbull is to blame.

Here’s another objective observation: your education in human development must have been in a standard university or college. This would explain why you believe things that go against common sense.

Grandparents taking care of grandchildren is part of American heritage. To leave a baby with a grandfather is good judgment.

Your comment criticized the general practice of leaving grandchildren with their grandfather. As a principle. And this is certainly a brainless comment.

Guys who think they NEED attack dogs are like those goat-ropers who put their trucks on huge wheels where they can barely climb up into them: compensating for perceived inadequacies.

A pit bull, a moderate Muslim and sweating dynamite. Which one goes off first?

tick tick tick tick...

However, there is some logic in blaming people for this kind of tragedy. But the blame I’m talking about is on a cultural level.

The culture of advocating for pitbulls. Most if not all of this culture is on the left, which, again, reveals the low IQ of communism.

It sure is personal

I blamed the pit bulls. If you care to read my comment that you’re responding to

I don’t want to get into anything more about this.

My kids -when they were little- rode around the farm in their grandfathers truck with him an old truck no seatbelts

They stayed with both grandparents plenty

I am talking about a 3 month old.

No one else around

I know now that’s not what happened here. I admitted I went by the headline the story I do not want the details on. I’ve seen enough working post op and in the ER

If you care to comment on my comment instead of something you’re dreaming up …

I never studied it. I don’t know anyone with them

Except my co worker. She has a bunch of them

She also happens to be one of the most narcissistic impossible painful to work with shirkers I have ever been unfortunate enough to get put in an office with

Her life sounds like a disaster besides

To leave a three month old with its grandfather is not only reasonable, it’s part of American heritage.

I see your post as an assault against American heritage and the common sense that comes with it.

It made no sense, and when a post makes no sense the only reasonable thing to do is correct the error. That’s all I was doing. No offense intended.

Please tell me the answer to my specific question
Or drop the talk

Did you ever leave your 3 month old nursing needy mommy- needing infant alone with your father or father in law for any long period of time as in babysitting?

How did it go?

This is a simple question and a simple follow up after your nasty insult accusing me of being brainless

If you cannot answer it please stop addressing me on the subject that you brought up

“Grandparents taking care of grandchildren is part of American heritage.”

In TN it’s not warm and fuzzy in that way. My friend was a social worker for the state and way more than half of these instances is because the parents are major drug abusers. Very often the have no involvement in their own kids’lives.

Well, let’s analyze this. Do you know the feeding plan for this baby during the time it was left with the grandfather?

No, you don’t. You don’t know if the baby uses formula, which is in a bottle easily delivered to the baby.

Like I was trying to explain, your post seems to be an assault on traditional American culture, which is families taking care of themselves and making their own decisions about life.

If you didn’t realize you posted against American heritage, then of course on a personal level it’s forgivable. But there are lots of posters on here who only pretend to be legitimate Freepers and really do hate American culture.

“My friend was a social worker for the state”

Was this one of the social workers contributing to the human trafficking industry? Many social workers and “child protection” entities simply feed the children to this industry.

Many of them don’t realize what they’re doing. Their problem is they’ve believed the lie that the state can take care of kids better than parents.

And I should add, many social workers are highly incompetent, largely because of the ideology in our education system.

And by the way, the answer to the problem of widespread drug use in our culture is not to just give up like cowards and allow the state to become the parent.

The answer is to audit the CIA and other agencies. These agencies are the drug kingpins.

Okay I’ll try to give you an answer you’ll be satisfied with, although you could have derived this answer from the ideas in my previous posts.

If I had a three month old, and if the feeding plan was established and the structure for it was in place, and all other necessary preparations were laid out, of course I would leave the child with its grandfather.

We don’t know if this kind of planning was done in this case. But the important point is we need to allow for individuals to have the freedom to take care of their own families and we should assume they’ve done the legwork.

I don’t believe in dumbing down our country.

Just horrific.
The poor grandfather and baby. Prayers sent 🙏🏻😞

And I must confess that these dogs, to me, are indeed the stuff of nightmares.
