Not anymore. Trump changed that in the BBB. 80 hours minimum per month of work, or equivalent minimum earned based on your state median income, or you don't qualify - up to age 64 (used to be 55). And having a kid under 18 doesn't get you our of it, the kid has to be under 14.
At one time I worked for the welfare department as an eligibility worker. Between the ages of 18 to 65 you were considered a Medically Indigent Adult and got no Medicaid unless you were long term or permanently disabled or had kids under 14. If you were on cash aid when the kid turned 14 they cut you off. Period. Food Stamps were based on income and it was a lot harder to qualify than now. We need to get back to making people work again.
That is most definitely not in place in Washington State, where the welfare gravy train has not been interrupted AT ALL yet.
The day one of these welfare leeches has to lift a finger and do any work will be like a bomb going off at the school where my wife works. There will be no other topic at dinner for months.
