1956 Italian GP: Fangio's fourth title after Collins' sportsmanship

The Greatest Act of Sportsmanship in Formula One History

Fangio was about a month past his 37th birthday when he made his first F1 start, yet he went on to win five WDCs. His win at the 1957 GP of Germany (Nürburgring) is considered one of the greatest feats of over-driving a car (something that modern cars won't allow) without dying in the process ... ever. He broke the lap record for The Green Hell, then went on to break his own record eight more times, seven times on consecutive laps.

He missed the start of the 1958 (non-championship) Grand Prix of Cuba ... because he'd been kidnapped by Castro's thugs. He was released after 29 hours and told the press he was "treated very well."

¡Qué Hombre!
