Detroit finally has a RoboCop statue

Nearly 15 years later, Detroit finally has its statue of RoboCop.

The bronze statue depicting the eponymous cybernetic star of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 set-in-Detroit sci-fi satire was installed in Eastern Market on Wednesday, nearly 15 years after someone proposed it in a viral social media post.

Back in 2011, someone with the Twitter account @MT (no, not us) tweeted at then-Mayor Dave Bing that Detroit should have a statue of the part-man, part-machine cop because “Philadelphia has a statue of Rocky & RoboCop would kick Rocky’s butt.”

“He’s a GREAT ambassador for Detroit,” the tweet continued.

The idea got even more attention after Bing’s office responded to it. “There are not any plans to erect a statue to Robocop,” Bing tweeted at the time. “Thank you for the suggestion.”

Stephanie Zimbalist would have been good in that movie. She was in the running or auditioned.

I just watched one of Verhoeven’s movies the other day “Soldier Of Orange”, with Rutger Hauer, although most of the movie is in Dutch, with English subtitles.

Wikipedia says she was cast but had to drop out due to her contractual obligations for Remington Steele.

Re: "Robo would kick Rocky's a.."

I disagree.

Rocky's most important boxing skill is the ability to absorb an infinite number of explosive force level punches to the head.

Should be in Dallas. That’s where they filmed it.

There’s an English language version floating around with large chunks cut out. The Dutch original of Soldaat van Oranje is much better.

SZ was the better part of Remington Steele.

The last season was lacking a lot.
