I have a generator. Getting gas for it in a major blackout might be an issue though.

Are you able to run a gas line to your home and “hardwire” the line to the generator? That’s what I’ve done but I already had a gas furnace with an existing gas line to the house that I was able to use when the generator was installed.

I have a gas line to the house, but unfortunately, my portable generator runs on gasoline, not natural gas. So it would be a no-go.

For short term outages, the little generator would be fine - enough to run the fridge, couple of lamps, a TV and the computer. Maybe a fan. Not much more than that. Emergency use only.
