Agreed. I was shocked when I looked at their prices for beef! We grow out a beef steer every 18 months for our beef. We’re buying a whole hog from a neighbor in a few weeks. The only meat I need to buy is some chicken for variety time to time. And they want $11 for a whole chicken these days - cheaper to buy the $8 deli chicken at The Pig! We have plenty of wild game, too.

Pretty sure we’ll be adding meat birds along with our laying hens in the near future if prices stay high.

I’ve always been good with a grocery budget - it’s really the only place where you actually have some wiggle room.

Grow your own if you can, raise your own if you can. Shop the sales (Loss Leaders) and plan meals around what’s on sale. Learn to can and preserve. Glean. Use the Food Pantry if you need to - most don’t have income restrictions. This is America. There are PLENTY of ways to get yourself fed. :)

“There are PLENTY of ways to get yourself fed.”

IF you bother to plan and cook! Too many people are just lazy,...IMHO.

Walmart adds a lot of "solution" to their meat, so they can charge more for less.

I know this. I worked in the meat department at Walmart many years ago.
