Walmart for groceries?!
They have Walmart only SKUs to get around price competition. So, that Jack Link’s beef jerky might seem cheaper, until you look and find it is one half-ounce lighter. The Red Rose tea bags have the same number, but are missing the individual paper wrappers to maintain freshness.
The produce is pre-weighed, and frankly, is no bargain.
They have had as much inflation as anyone else. Those little 50 cent blueberry pies are now 85 cents.
Where you are Diana, Woodman’s is generally as a good a deal or better.
Where I am, Winco, American Discount Foods (for REALLY crazy closeouts), Smart & Final, and loss leaders/Clearance at Fry’s (Kroger) and Safeway/Albertson’s. Avocados at the Mexican “Food City”.
I used to buy marked-down ‘Italian’ bread to put cheese on and then toast in my toaster oven.
The cheese crackers I used to love have a hot spice taste and often a bit of burnt taste.
That bread almost never gets marked down now. They make garlic bread out of it nowadays.
Winco in the town 30 miles away. For meat Raleys and for quick items Smart and Final. We have a super Walmart but stay away
We have found that if we only shop sale items at Albertsons we beat Walmart prices. Over and over. We use Walmart for stuff like cleaning products, toilet paper, etc unless we find it on sale at Albertsons. When we find a good sale item we usually load up. We like having backup.
“Where are you, Diana?”
We live very rural, SW Wisconsin. My two choices are Walmart and Piggly Wiggly...and that’s a 20 mile round trip as it is! We have a Farm & Fleet for animal supplies in the same town. I use ‘Chewy’ for house pet supplies.
We get by fine. We have a HUGE garden, Beau hunts and fishes. We raise our own beef and have laying hens. We just bought a whole hog from our neighbor. We’re all pretty self-sufficient out here, between all of our farms.
I have friends that like Woodman’s. Mom likes Pic-n-Save which is a Kroger brand, I think? I will shop Aldi when we travel to a larger town about 45 minutes away to hit Menard’s for building/repair/farm supplies. We have a great butcher in our Cow Town - Population 283 - an old General Store that’s been there since the 1950’s. Great bacon and cheeses. :)
