Americana music icon Todd Snider has died at 59, his label confirmed Saturday.
The singer-songwriter, known for hits like Alright Guy, had been a defining voice in the genre for more than three decades, captivating fans with his tender, witty, and deeply human songs.
His label, Aimless Records, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook Saturday morning.
Our beloved Todd Daniel Snider has departed this world,' they wrote. 'He relayed so much tenderness and sensitivity through his songs, and showed many of us how to look at the world through a different lens.
'We love you Todd, sail on old friend, we’ll see you again out there on the road somewhere down the line. You will always be a force of nature.'
The news came less than 24 hours after his family revealed Friday that he had been hospitalized due to an 'undiagnosed case of walking pneumonia.'

Never heard of them either.
...and he was begging for help and gets arrested.
I saw Billy Joe Shaver numerous times. He put on a terrific performance. So heart felt. One thing that Todd Snider had on Billy Joe Shaver was that he didn’t shoot a guy in a bar in the face. I listened to the trial. When the verdict was read, there were cheers.
I know. What a terrible response by law enforcement.
Ugh. Try “To live is to fly” by Townes Van Zandt. You’re welcome :-)
Todd Snider was an alright guy.
What if find curious is that some people use the announcement of someone’s death as opportunity to express that they are ignorant of that person’s existence.
An Americana icon like Buddy Miller
I just saw this
Nine years my junior
Eddie
The Jeff Beck of that style country rock
I saw him at the Exit In right before he ODed
Ten feet away
Incredible
Actually there are millions of people across this Earth that you nor I know that exist...But you must feel how you feel, I guess....
It’s always been Sour Republic
So few of us now it’s more omnipresent
At least he didn’t die rock climbing
They would really launch the sympathy
One thing Shaver had that Snider didn’t was Jesus Christ.
Snider hated Christians.
I was singing Beer Run in my head about an hour ago for no reason. Now I understand.
Thank you Todd for your music and stories.
Pfizer or Moderna?
It’s completely understandable because writers use adjectives like “Legendary” and “Icon” or other superlatives when they aren’t that well known. Johnny Cash was Legendary, and an Icon. People who don’t follow country music knew who he was. See the difference?
Umm... I've never heard of any of those dudes either. This must be a faction of country music that appears to be on the fringe.
I didn’t know a lot of this performer’s work, but I remember one song I heard back in the early 2000’s that was hilarious. I think it’s called Talking Seattle Grunge Rock Blues. I wouldn’t characterize it as country, though. Sad that he passed so young.
