Americana music icon Todd Snider has died at 59, his label confirmed Saturday.

The singer-songwriter, known for hits like Alright Guy, had been a defining voice in the genre for more than three decades, captivating fans with his tender, witty, and deeply human songs.

His label, Aimless Records, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook Saturday morning.

Our beloved Todd Daniel Snider has departed this world,' they wrote. 'He relayed so much tenderness and sensitivity through his songs, and showed many of us how to look at the world through a different lens.

'We love you Todd, sail on old friend, we’ll see you again out there on the road somewhere down the line. You will always be a force of nature.'

The news came less than 24 hours after his family revealed Friday that he had been hospitalized due to an 'undiagnosed case of walking pneumonia.'

'You’ve carried him through so much over the years, and he needs that from all of us now more than ever.'

No official cause of death has been released. ***

Gone too soon. His most recent album which was released in October left me with the impression that something wasn’t going right for Todd Snider.

"Statistician's Blues"

They say 3 percent of the people use 5 to 6 percent of their brain
97 percent use 3 percent and the rest goes down the drain
I'll never know which one I am but I'll bet you my last dime
99 percent think we're 3 percent 100 percent of the time

In recent photos, he looks to be the picture of health.
I guess a fatal condition can happen to anyone and at any time.

“Mystery Illness” and “Pneumonia” doesn’t really compute.

Here is his most recent encounter with the police. His brain chemistry is off kilter. He doesn’t look like he is fairing well.

He was more in the genre of Americana. Think Ray Wylie Hubbard, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt etc.

News outlets have a weird habit of labeling everyone either a legend or an icon. I’ve never heard of this one.

He was in a group recently named Hard Working Americans that had a song Black Land Farmer which was quite good:

I don’t understand why certain people use the death of someone as an opportunity to flaunt their ignorance.

Todd Snider was a well respected Americana artist who was covered by Jerry Jeff Walker, Billy Joe Shaver, Robert Earl Keen to name a few.

Entertaining enough but a super hate filled leftist who put it in his music.

He chose to live a miserable Godless life. It’s sad but somehow not surprising.

He should have listened to Billy Joe Shaver.

“...flaunt their ignorance...”

Sorry that it upset you that not everyone listens to the same singer that you listen to.....

I enjoyed his songs and overlooked the fact he was a raging leftie.

I’m with you. Never heard of him. To be called an “Americana music icon” kinda infers he’s famous or well known. Whatever.
