Japan is probably the cleanest country in the world. They do not need garbage cans in public places. No one throws garbage around. And probably has the lowest crime rate of any country in 100 largest countries.

Japan is probably the cleanest country in the world. They do not need garbage cans in public places. No one throws garbage around. My reading was that they used to have garbage receptacles in public places, but that they were then prohibited (or maybe just "quietly removed") after the Sarin Gas Subway Attack.
