Thank you for sharing this with us. I’m in New York State, and am glad to know that Jim had a military send-off, which he truly deserved. I’m assuming he was buried next to his wife. RIP Jim.

>> I hope I’m not out of line making this post.

I for one am grateful that you shared your eyewitness. What a beautiful testimony to a wonderful and effective patriot, Christian, and family man!

I’m thankful, as I see others here are, that you did tell us about it. I wondered how it was.

I never knew Jim but the two times I think it was I wrote him about some goofy thing on FR he took care of it, sending me a message. I honestly treasured those messages from him. He was really a wonderful person. Honest and loved our country and kind.

I miss him very much just knowing he is not here on FR but maybe I hope his, somewhere, in spirit.

Miss you, Jim. Thank you for all you did.

Thank you for your post!

Jim Robinson was the founder of Free Republic and one of the internet’s earliest conservative pioneers. Mr. Robinson passed away peacefully last month (10-27-25), in Fresno, California. He was 79.

Longtime readers of Free Republic (like me) know it's one of the most devoted and energized conservative grassroots organizations in the country.

Mr. Robinson served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969. Mr. Robinson pursued computer programming and web development, skills that would later empower him to create Free Republic in 1996, one of the first online spaces for political discussion.

Free Republic was launched as a discussion board for conservative viewpoints. By early 1997, “Freepers” were exchanging ideas and organizing events long before social media made such activism commonplace.

During the Clinton impeachment era, Free Republic became a hub of conservative grassroots energy, proof that ordinary citizens could wield collective influence through the internet.

To his readers, he wasn’t merely a site administrator, he was a mentor, a defender of free speech, and a believer in the idea that the people should drive the national conversation.

He leaves behind a lasting legacy. One of the first experiments (long before before Facebook and Twitter) in grassroots, user-driven media.

Rest in peace, Jim Robinson.
