New York City Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani seemed to have an awkward reaction when presented with the news of ex-Vice President Dick Cheney's death.
Zohran simply asked, "When did that happen?" and then nodded in response before returning to campaigning after learning Cheney died this morning.
The Democrat kicked off his busy Election Day morning schedule by voting with his wife, Rama Duwaji, at a local school. He held a brief news conference outside afterward, wearing an “I Voted” sticker on the left lapel of his dark gray suit jacket. He then embarked on several TV and radio appearances to round out the day.
One user laughed, "his wife making the 'huh! that's neat. anyways,' face," pointing out that Mamdani's spouse, Duwaji, reacted by making a face and nodding. Another wrote, "if 'Damn, thats crazy' was a person," in response to the response. Another also pointed out, "lol so basically no reaction."

The point was to highlight the passing of one political era as another begins.
yes, but it wasn’t. Cheney wasn’t the last GOPer standing, and Mandummy isn’t the first Muslim socialist in office.
It’s not that Mamdani responded wrongly in any way. It’s just interesting timing through no control of his own - given that 9/11 happened in NYC, a Muslim who was a child when it happened is now the mayor of NYC. This, a quarter century after the likes of Dick Cheney unleashed the War on Terror against much of the Islamic world.
So people online are wondering whether the timing of Cheney’s death and Mamdani’s win held some ‘divine’ symbolic significance. A metaphorical shift of sorts.
