It’s not unsubstantiated as much as it is they just misspoke. Like I said, it is far more common to refer to fuel by volume than weight, and you know that. You act as though someone falsely claimed there was a neutron bomb on the plane or something.

You are making a much bigger issue of it than it is. The point of it was a significant amount of fuel for a very long flight from Louisville to Honolulu. I agree it should be corrected but it is hardly the earth shattering thing you are making it out to be or done with ill intent.

Well, on that point I agree. If they didn’t know for sure what they were talking about, they should have just said a large amount of fuel, and left it at that,

Yeah, looking at the sat view, it looks like the petro recycling business had at least 22 tanks, ~10 ft. diameter, 10-50 ft. long or tall, on site, plus some smaller tanks, and hard to say what’s in the buildings. That probably explains the large secondary fire that just kept on going. We’ll be lucky, I think, to get out of this with under 20 killed, and likely some horrible burn injuries to that many or more survivors. :-(

Misspeaking? Unsubstantiated? Call it what you like, it is still bogus info.

No, it is not commonly referred to by weight. Gallon is not a weight. Liter is not a weight, etc.

You are flat out incorrect.

When you’re sitting on the flight deck it’d be the right engine.

It's interesting to me as to the cause of the crash.

Hopefully the black boxes were not damaged/destroyed in that fireball. Something happened between V1 and Vr as engine debris came to rest well down the runway near the landing zone for 35L. They took off from 17R.

Okay, yeah. left engine. First look at video it looked like the plane was heading towards the camera, but on second look, it was taking off away from the camera. Sorry, my bad.

I wasn’t reopening our earlier discussion - just commenting that media is still getting it wrong - apparently no one has thought to correct them.

And the people who have previously referenced the amount of fuel in the press conferences they have aired were not aviation people but the emergency response crews, politicians, etc. and were calling it “gallons”, so I can’t really blame them but you would think someone would have called in to correct it by now who was watching.
