While other places compete for their over-the-top Christmas decorations, here in Greenwich Village the big holiday for house decoration is Halloween. I’ve put together a small collection of some of this year’s scariest houses. However, one of them is not like the others.
These first several are on West 11th Street and Charles Street:
And then, here’s the scariest one of all:
There are no Halloween decorations. But this is the house — 80 Washington Place — where (allegedly) mafia-connected scammers conducted rigged poker games, using NBA players to lure high rollers to games where they would lose big money. According to press reports, the scammers used every possible trick, including x-ray machines beneath the tables, rigged shuffling devices, and marked cards that could be read with special glasses. Some marks are said to have lost in excess of a million dollars in a single night.
According to a plaque on this house, it was once owned by the band composer John Philip Sousa, who purchased it in 1919. The plaque says that the top floor with the large window was added by Sousa. You may even be able to read the plaque if you enlarge the image sufficiently.

I wonder if the sidewalks will all be littered with garbage and homeless tents when Mamdani gets through with NYC. That would be really frightening to the residents.

Glad Halloween is over every movie channel and others had nothing but lousy horror B movies 24/7.
