From Natural Theological proofs like those of Descartes and may others, even if we were in a simulation ultimately there would have to be God as the final perfect thing with aseity et al.

But putting aside revelation, and just going on Natural proofs, we have no idea how many intermediate steps there might be between us and God. And something that might be closer to be described as a simulation than to anything else that lends itself metaphorically might be the first step.

I suppose natural proofs only say we will never be capable of simulating ourselves and leaves open the possibility of a higher order simulation that works in some way outside of human understanding, and possibly comprehension.

That said, it seems the deeper our species’ knowledge becomes, the more we learn the “why” behind things that are stated in the Bible. I don’t think that is confirmation bias given how many people out there seek to use science to discredit the Bible. With that as my premise I tend to doubt the intermediate step between us and our ultimate creator.
