You may not believe this, but I actually went to see this movie on Friday with my BFFs, all music lovers. We had seen the ‘Queen’ movie, which was very good and also the one on Elton John and saw the ABBA CGI thing, etc.
Senior Discount - we paid $5 to see it. My review shows we got our money’s worth, LOL!
This movie was nothing like we were expecting. We were expecting a lot of singing, some behind-the-scenes stuff, etc.
It was SO slow-paced and SO DEPRESSING! If you didn’t already suffer FROM depression before you watched this movie, you had it afterwards! YIKES!
The acting was top-notch. Really, everyone delivered in their assigned roles. The actor that played Springsteen was good, and the kid that played him as a child deserves an Oscar. He had that ‘haunted’ look down pat. And another Oscar can go to the man who played his abusive, alcoholic, DEPRESSED father. *I* was scared of him!
For a really depressing movie, it was not that bad. And it wasn’t badly made, and it captured the feel of the late 70’s, early 80’s. But, it certainly wasn’t what the public was looking for, fans of Springsteen or not.
I can see why it’s not a big hit.
P.S. Sprinsteen ain’t no ‘Jersey Boy.’ THAT movie is a blast - but the stage production of ‘Jersey Boys’ is SO MUCH BETTER if you ever get the chance to see it live.
