Some people are just real asses when it’s not happening to them.
The forecast is actually for 40 inches of rain and this is an incredibly powerful and destructive storm.
Doesn’t seem likely that many of those planning on riding it out will make it out alive, between storm surge, rainfall totals and flooding, and wind damage.
I wonder just how many buildings will remain standing when it’s all said and done.
That’s what they said in New Orleans pre-Katrina’s arrival.
Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of Gitmo - keep them off US owned land so they don’t get a judge and jury?
Just saw rescue person who is structural engineer say many many structures can’t handle this . It will quickly turn into search and rescue
The footage of the stadium effect inside of this hurricane is magnificent..and horrifying.
Personnel, not prisoners.............
And many were fine until the levees broke
Hurricane Melissa is now recording 188 MPH winds at the surface................
“ Evacuate to where?”
With relatives who live on higher ground.

And given the predicted 30” of rain and the country’s mountainous terrain that may not even be safe. Rockslides and landslides may be a major danger.

Bull Bay is further east than Kingston; she’ll probably be okay even in a rickety house. I lived near New Orleans in 2005, so I understand the aversion to government shelters.
It took me a couple of times watching to understand someone in background worried about it going on the Internet. I think afraid someone would try to come to their shelter

When the rain hits the mountains and runs off, it’s going to be channeled through any low lying area into the ocean.
And that’s going to include all the streets. Those *houses* and other structures, don’t look anywhere near capable of handling any significant floodwaters.
Quarrel is making a beeline for the Caymans on his skiff.
When the hurricane hunter plane aborts, you know it’s bad.
Crying won’t help you, praying won’t do you no good.
Should have been named Hurricane Kamala.

....Hurricane Melissa blows...Kamala sucks..
I hung out with the Jamaicans years ago.
Many of them lived in rusty tin shacks.
I praying for them...
Ah, that makes sense. Perhaps the prisoners are given a few days cruise on a navy ship in rooms without windows and returned promptly once the storm passes.
