Inside Brian Kelly's messy firing at LSU: How it all unraveled so quickly in Baton Rouge

Down on the bayou, they’ve got a sayin'.

C’est tout!

It’s pronounced SAY-too and it’s Cajun French for, “That’s all.”

And that is all. For Brian Kelly.

Sunday was a busy day in Baton Rouge. Meetings. Phone calls. Zooms. Even a drafted resolution for a multi-million-dollar buyout for the school’s 64-year-old, fourth-year head coach.

Shall I put it in south Louisiana terms? With the arrival of gumbo weather, things got quite spicy on the bayou (I’ll see myself out).

Kelly was 34 - 14 at LSU. Naps would still have his job with that record.

I don’t think Napier is ever hired as a head coach at any level again. The Gators are loaded with talent and to my knowledge not one player has entered the portal.

LSU had 3 consecutive head coaches in a row win National Championships. Then they hired Brian Kelly, paid him way too much money to watch him throw it all away.

Guess they will have to start another “Consecutive Head Coaches Win National Championships at LSU” streak.

No other school can say it. Big time athleticism found there obviously.

Penn State will most likely wind up hiring Rhule. Not saying that’s what they should do or that he’s the best hire, just that he will probably be the hire.

I would expect nothing less from a Louisiana gov. Huey Long put LSU on the map and everyone since follows suit.

The #1 buzz now is Lane Kiffin. Ed doesn’t appear to be in the running, so say the sport scribes.

I just never understood this ND LSU connection…..ND use to be on LSU’s schedule? Because LA is predominant Catholic?

LSU mascot in reality is a tough fighting man for the Confederacy. The masquerade is a tiger to keep the PC folks off their backs...

“Napier will be back coaching the Ragin’ Cajuns next year.”

He did have great success there. But do you really think they’ll the AD would fire Desmoreaux and bring Napier back? Heck, would Napier even come back after he’s had a taste of coaching a Power 5 team?

“Yes and those Aggies are paying Jimbo Fisher $27,000 a day for 8 years.
That’s insane”

I saw on ESPN this morning that Kelly said his buyout is non negotiable. He’ll get $800,000.00 per month spread out over 6 years.

I like the way you think. Billy Napier would be a perfect fit for LSU.

NIL has changed the sport totally. These name coaches aren’t worth it when you can just buy a new team every year. Better to spend that money on players.

$800K a month buys a lot of players. These schools are better off hiring a young guy and putting the cash into the players.

Why would LSU let that AD pick his third football coach after the last 2 busts?

Ed Orgeron loved LSU. He’s a great recruiter.

The fact that LSU fired him so quickly after he led them to a national championship shows how bad the LSU job has become.

It would be very wise for them to hire a great assistant, who won’t cost them an arm and a leg.
