The EV revolution is getting stripped for parts.
California’s green dream is dying by a thousand copper cuts.
You can’t plug in progress when the streets are unplugging the city.

BRIEFING
... Every now and then, a story drops that’s so dripping in irony it feels like satire. Los Angeles, the city that prides itself on being the crown jewel of “green innovation,” has officially short-circuited its own electric dream. The city’s extravagant vision of “zero emissions” is being shorted out by something painfully fitting: the homeless are ripping the copper wiring straight out of EV charging stations. Let’s break it down.
Across LA, electric vehicle chargers are being stripped for parts at a shocking pace. Thieves are cutting cords, prying open panels, and hauling off copper to sell for scrap just to survive another day. What’s left behind looks less like a futuristic eco-city and more like a scrapyard. Chargers are broken, neighborhoods are littered with debris, and the city’s expensive climate agenda is literally being sold by the pound.
It’s the kind of chaos that perfectly captures what happens when utopian policy meets ground-level dysfunction.

You literally can’t make this up
Los Angeles has a new barrier to getting to Democrats zero emissions. The homeless are stealing all the copper wiring out of EV chargers throughout the city

Democrats in the state legislature are now scrambling to pass new laws to “crack down” on copper theft. But let’s be honest, this is the same political class that let the crime wave spiral out of control in the first place. When theft is decriminalized and police are defunded, it’s not hard to predict what happens next.
LA leaders are currently imploring Newsom to do something, anything, about this issue, but currently their pleas are going unaddressed.

Assembly member Mark Gonzalez, who represents downtown L.A. and Boyle Heights — among the neighborhoods most affected by copper wire theft — introduced the bill in February. It passed the state Assembly and Senate floors unanimously. Now, it’s up to Newsom.
L.A. County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said he supports the bill’s focus on enforcement of metal recyclers because it’s difficult to go after thieves themselves in real time. Hochman added that if the bill gets signed, his office will be “absolutely relentless” in going after “illegal junk and metal recyclers.” Councilmember Ysabel Jurado said AB 476 “shifts the focus to prevention, transparency and accountability” and would make sure families in her district, which is disproportionately affected by copper wire theft, have equitable access to public resources, like functioning streetlights.
So now California is facing a bizarre irony: the state that lectured the rest of the country about sustainability can’t even keep its chargers plugged in. The dream of a clean, green future just got unplugged by the very chaos their own policies created.
The same politicians who champion EVs also gutted law enforcement, decriminalized theft, and turned public spaces into open-air homeless camps. Now they’re shocked that the “future of clean energy” is literally being sawed apart for scrap.
What makes it even more surreal is the symbolism. The great promise of the electric revolution is being unplugged by the very people progressives claim to be helping. The wires are being ripped out, the lights are going dark, and California’s “green dream” is being recycled for pennies at a scrapyard.
NOW YOU KNOW
California’s progress: no power, no safety, no clue.
Its just the same old socialist “tragedy of the commons” re-written by California neo marxists.
EV charging stations are often owned by government or public entities. They are usually unwatched and unmanned. They need a high-trust society to even exist, which is impossible in 2025 California.
It will be another expensive socialist failure.
Thanks to “green” policies, copper prices are at highest.
The fast charging stations need really thick copper wires to accommodate huge charging currents (~1000A).
So cutting and recycling charging cable can fetch you over $200.
Who cares that you just made almost $2000 damage!
Third world. Why they have daily blackouts in S. Africa.
Not the same person but the same excuses.
Perps not person.
If you start flogging them they will stop.
MOVIE TO SOON FOLLOW
WHO IS PLACING BETS ON THE OLYMPICS GETTING MOVED TO ELSEWHERE?
Look at the video of these idiots cutting the cables while someone is charging their car!
Sparks fly!.............
A common theft in power plants. When being built you could often see a roll of copper cable slowly unrolling into a man hole at lunch time. Someone was cutting it up. A common saying among the construction workers was “If you can’t double your paycheck by stealing copper you were a poor construction worker.”
It was common to see construction workers come in with a lunch box, eat, then lug out a very heavy lunch box at quitting time.
Lots of waste in constructing a power plant. Some of the maintenance men stayed and went through the trash dump and found huge amounts of copper just thrown away. Enough to sell and have a beer party on.
California’s progress: no power, no safety, no clue.
🤣👍🏻
All your posts are in caps makes it sound like you are shouting.
I doubt it is just the homeless ripping out copper.
you can bet they will fix this in the most torturous and painful way possible and the parties least at fault will get regulated out of business
Easy solution. Treat it like politicians treat real estate rentals. Pass idiotic laws.
All EV stations can not be left vacant, but must be staffed and maintained 24/7. If not, tickets will be issued to the owners.
If EV stations are non-operable, they will be fined $1000 a day until repaired.
Each EV station will be inspected on a monthly basis by local government inspectors. Naturally, a tax will be placed on stations to create funding for government inspectors.
With these laws in place, the problem of copper thieves will disappear because there will be fewer and fewer EV stations.
THEY’RE EATING EACH OTHER
Pass the popcorn.
they can pass all the laws they want, but if they don’t enforce them it’s all just Kabuki Theater ...
enforcement means: providing sufficient police force to catch and charge the criminals, high bail requirements to keep ‘em in jail until court adjudication, DAs who take these cases seriously and go balls to the walls with prosecutions, enough courts and judges to try the cases, tough judges who levy maximum sentences upon conviction ...
of course, NONE of that will happen in LA, so new laws will just join all the rest of the laws on the books that aren’t enforced, and copper theft will continue unabated ...
