Here's Why This German Museum Has Suddenly Been Overrun With Taylor Swift Fans

Not content with dominating the music scene, Taylor Swift is apparently now taking on the art world, with hundreds of her fans making the pilgrimage to a German museum to catch a glimpse of a certain painting.

Earlier this month, the Grammy winner released the music video for her latest single The Fate Of Ophelia, the opening shot of which seems to have been inspired by artist Friedrich Heyser’s painting depicting the iconic Shakespearean character.

Heyser’s painting now lives in Museum Wiesbaden in Germany, and dedicated Swifties have been paying it a visit in their droves much to the surprise of staff in the last few weeks.

“We are having an absolute Ophelia run at the moment and are quite surprised and happy about it,” a museum spokesperson told the Guardian.

“It’s been a shock, to be honest. We have a colleague who has a friend who is a Swift fan and she noticed the video’s opening scene had a similarity [with the Heyser painting] and we thought, wow, what a coincidence – that’s exciting.”

Fortunately, Taylor’s fans are said to have been “respectful” despite the sudden interest in the painting, and the museum has even organised a reception and guided tour of the artwork to make the most of its newfound popularity.

It's a nice painting, but like much of Heysers work, pretty forgettable.

There are some paintings that just reach out and grab you. Heysers stuff just doesn't. Van Eyck or Caravaggio on the other hand

That van Eyck painting has fascinated me since I saw it in real life 3 years ago. In real life it is even more amazing, you feel it is 3 dimensional and the characters are real and moving. Incredible

I think that Van Eyk piece is a triptych (divided into 3 pieces) isn’t it? I always admired his use of Egg Tempera paints. Provides a remarkable sense of depth.
Durer is one of my other idols for rendering of the figure by simple means.

I think you are mixing it up with Van Eyck’s adoration of the lamb which is part of a triptych and is also amazing and grabs you and holds you.

This one, the virgin and child with Abbott something is in the Groeningemuseum in Bruges

The Groeningemuseum in Bruges

Bruges is a gem - but be aware that you will leave with a few more kgs of weight - the chocolate, the waffles, the meals, the beer, och - delicious!

And the city is gorgeous

I love that one. The first and only Christmas Day. Hark, the herald Angels sing!!
Minute rendering of the figures and the landscape work perfectly with the naive, idealized perspective, lightly bordered by a wide open horizon.

extreme influencer, hopeful other good things may come out of Taylor Swift. Just think if she suddenly became available for Super Bowl half time, where would bad bunny hop off to ? I’ve been saying this as well ,the drop off of interest in trans among the age cohort passing through late adolescence over the last several years corresponds to Swift- Kelce, heterosexual, enchanted romance. Young minds full of mush.

My wife is a big Colin Firth fan. So, upon its video release, I rented the film ‘In Bruges’ for her. I quite enjoyed it and the city looks absolutely charming. However, it turns out the Colin Firth and Colin Farrell are entirely different people.

Interesting you’d mention that — I wondered, so I looked it up. His model was Elizabeth Siddal, who was at the end of her life married to PRB founder Dante Gabriel Rossetti. She died by her own hand and, well, that story is creepy, but a little long (that’s a break for you). But anyway, after her death he painted her portrait, one of his best known works, “Beata Beatrix”.
