Carney challenges Trump to make a bet on World Series as Canada’s team plays Dodgers

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday challenged President Trump to make a friendly wager on the outcome of the World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers.

But Mr. Carney said Mr. Trump hasn’t returned his call yet on the potential bet.

“I think he’s afraid, I think he’s afraid to make a bet,” Mr. Carney joked to The Associated Press while taking in batting practice at Toronto’s Rogers Centre a day before Game 1 of the World Series in Toronto.

“He doesn’t like to lose. He hasn’t called. He hasn’t returned my call yet on the bet, so I’m ready. We’re ready to make a bet with the U.S.”

Mr. Carney predicts the Blue Jays will win the best-of-seven series in six games.

“This country is so pumped. I think the world is so pumped for this series,” Mr. Carney said, noting the interest in Japan because of Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani.

Canada’s only major league team will have the country behind it during the World Series.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr is Canadian.

So is Freddy Freeman of the Dodgers.

First, he should ask Kash to investigate unusual wagering trends. And keep an eye on Gambino men signaling each other in the stands.

I’m rooting for the Bums, as I have since the days of Wally Moon and Duke Snider.

So Toronto has 1 Canadian player, one. It makes Carney’s statement even more ridiculous.

Y’all need to pick your spots. This is a common, friendly thing that state governors do every year. Just a token bet of something of little monetary value, but symbolic in nature.

Like Carney bets a case of Canadian maple syrup, and Trump bets a prime Texas steer.

It’s not a dick swinging contest.

I’m no gambling man, but if I were going to bet, I’d bet on the team with Shohei Ohtani.

The Dodgers won last year with Ohtani doing basically nothing, and then getting hurt. This year he is in top form, and pitching in top form too, plus a slew of other top starting pitchers. It seems a safe bet.

"Don’t be an ass."

What, like you having to call someone an ass over a comment? How old are you? 12?

“We lose, Canada gets to have California.”

IF we win, Canada gets California AND Minnesota .. .

Dodgers win, Canada takes over California.

Dodgers lose, US has to remain stuck with it.

I love the Dodgers but hate their owners. “Magic” Johnson has slept with more women than Solomon. His son is a cross dresser. Sorry, cannot support this. Go Toronto Blue Jays!!!

Yes, but...the Dodgers have not 1, not 2, but 3 devout Christians on its pitching staff.

(1) Clayton Kershaw, who is retiring after this Series. Kershaw needled the LGBT crowd when forced to wear the rainbow-logo hat during "pride day" at Dodgers stadium, adding this:

(2) Blake Treinen, who paid tribute to Charlie Kirk the day after his death, by wearing a hat on the mound that featured Kirk’s name alongside a cross:

(3) Michael Kopech, also a vocal Christian, who has a large cross displayed on his glove:

Do bear that in mind.

I rooted for the Dodgers from the time I was 4-5 years old ( born in ‘52 and in ‘56 my Mom bought me a kids’ Brooklyn Dodger uniform ) until the early 80’s when I moved to Japan and after that lost all interest in MLB . Living in Japan one is bombarded with news / tv / commercials starring Ohtani and to tell you the truth I’m tired of hearing about him , his wife and their dog !

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m doing. Politicians make bets over sporting events all the time. No reason for you to get your nose bent out of joint over it.

Q: Why is being a fan of sports teams so popular?

A: Because even losers can vicariously experience winning.

Dave Roberts, Freddie Freeman, and Tommy Edman are also devout Christians.

Grok identified Shohei Ohtani as a devout Christian but I’m not sure about that.
