That has been in place since the 80's.

James E. Paulette, 43, is accused of posing as a family member to sign an eighth-grade student out from Cross Keys Middle School on Tuesday.

What idiot would do that?

Lawsuit incoming unless James E. Paulette was on the kid's emergency card giving him specific permission to pick up the kid.

When I went and got one of my kids at school, I had to show a driver's license, sign my name - and then my name was checked against what was on the kid's emergency card as to whom was allowed to take the student out of the school. Had to do this each and every time even though the staff knew me.

It is hard to believe that when I was in school there were no sign outs. Attendance in each class was monitored. But other than that you could come an go whenever you wanted and with whom every you wanted without being monitored. And I don’t remember any horror stories that resulted from it.
