Stephen A. Smith on Thursday said he thinks Secretary of State Marco Rubio would best Vice President Vance if the two face off in the 2028 presidential election’s Republican primary.
“I got to be honest with you, if this Israel-Hamas deal comes out to be more positive than anything else, I don’t think anybody be able to compete with Marco Rubio who Trump called ‘maybe the greatest Secretary of State in American history,’” Smith said during a Thursday episode of his “Straight Shooter” podcast on SiriusXM.
“Marco Rubio gets things done. He’s a former senator, now secretary of State and national security adviser. He is no joke. I put him above Vice President Vance, I can tell you that much,” the sports commentator added.
Smith has been increasingly weighing in on political races nationwide and highlighted Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore as his two favorite potential Democratic nominees for 2028. On Wednesday, he co-hosted a live NewsNation town hall at the Kennedy Center alongside Chris Cuomo and Bill O’Reilly.
He’s also previously floated the idea of launching his own presidential bid.
“I hope somebody from the Democratic Party steps up. I hope I light a fire under them and get a more qualified individual in this mix, so people can stop asking me this stuff and I can enjoy my life,” Smith told Fox News’s Sean Hannity in April.
“But if it continues to get worse, all hands on deck, all of us should consider running, for crying out loud, rather than dealing with this nonsense” he added.

“Consider the source: They do not want JDV.”
####################
Precisely. SAS has is eye on the job, and he is not to be underestimated. He would rather run against Marco.
JDV is more MAGA than Rubio, IMHO, although Rubio has been one helluva SecState.
“DeSantis-Vance. Or vice versa.”
Ditto.
Rubio has been outstanding as the SoS. I have concerns about Vance, mainly his ties to Silicon Valley and his wife’s Indian heritage making him unlikely to curb H-1B and other legal immigration limits.
Exactly—he is too MAGA. While I like the job Rubio is doing as SOS, he is still a Bush guy and I worry a Deep State Trojan Horse. I think the Deep State wants to split the vote in 2028 and that they think Rubio will appeal more to Independents, women and non-MAGA people.
Agree
Hochul and Whitmer are the others they are touting.
Who does what now?
Me too. Currently, I think I would pick Rubio over Vance.
#1 requirement Anti Swamp, and that means max 8 years in politics. Rubio disqualified.
Best Secy of State . . . John Quincy Adams. He shuttled the Atlantic and did not get seasick. His father did.
The Florida Governor is limited to two consecutive 4-year terms, so Ron DeSantis will leave office about January 8, 2027 — about 15 months from now, and just before the halfway mark of Trump’s current term. Trump may bring DeSantis’ outstanding executive talent to Washington to develop another future President.
JD would be a great YOUNG scotus. Rubio should be in the WH as POTUS when the Cubans throw out the communists. May not have to wait that long as Argentina moves ahead and other nations feel the heat-think Venezuela/Brazil. El Salvador will get rich as the western hemisphere’s penal colony. Just think-about 10-15% of the people are evil parasites. They get in our way and their removal will free up the rest of us to thrive. A gulag? Some people are screw-ups no matter what system of government they live under.
Steven A. Smith. Gag me with a spoon. Talks big but makes us laugh at what’s going on inside his head.
Interesting...Stephen A Smith also likes Josh Shapiro for the Democrats.
Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana is also worth a look as a GOP presidential candidate. His new book “How to Test Negative for Stupid” is a must read for conservatives. He is a great communicator, like Ronald Reagan, is humorous, and like Reagan does not come across as mean spirited when cutting down his opponents with his brilliant wit. His wit and smiling gentlemanly demeanor plays will with women voters who are offended by aggressive alpha males such as Trump. Yet he strongly cuts through the BS to the truth quickly which makes him attractive to male voters. He is no pushover.
Senator Kennedy is a highly educated lawyer and constitutional scholar. He knows the Constitution inside out and is committed to the founder’s vision of a constitutional republic. If we are to rebuild our legal system, which has been destroyed by liberal law schools and ignorance of the Constitution, he has the knowledge and determination to take on the task during his first term.
Trump is the right person for the current task at hand. if he is successful, the critical issues for the nation will be different in 2028. What will those issues be and who is best suited for tackling them? Rubio, Vance, Kennedy or someone who isn’t on the radar screen today. Lest we forget, during Trump’s first term many on this forum were touting Pence as Trump’s successor.
Kennedy’s recent interview with Victor Davis Hanson is well worth the an hour of your time. It can be found on YouTube and is titled: “Inside Washington DC: VDH Talks with Senator John Kennedy”.
Stephen who???
This is me caring.....
Honestly, this is a good problem to have. They’re both so good.
**Interesting...Stephen A Smith also likes Josh Shapiro for the Democrats.**
Not interesting. Charles Barkley was rumored to run for Ala. Gov. as a republican. The Rock fella plays both sides. Perhaps they’re throwing us bones hoping we’ll line up behind them. Think Bono. No core values in these people but they sure like to hear themselves talk.
**Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana is also worth a look as a GOP presidential candidate.**
Too old. I could see him as a veep for 4 years. Everyone would lighten up.
Exactly. Narrative starts early. And who is to say Trump doesn’t bow and the end of year 3 and let JD campaign as the POTUS?
Ok, but what does Paul Finebaum think?
BINGO!
SAS remains a low IQ, leftwing racist & socialist...and now showing us who his leftwing terrorist party fears the most.
On one hand, I'd like to see JDV/DeSantis...but RDS has had moments of embracing RINO Establishment types and anti-Trumpism so not sure if he could be trusted.
Lol...thanks for the warning!
